Sunday, July 21st is the final day of our Bozeman exchange program schedule: we’ll start off with a half-day walk + wade of the Upper Madison, fishing riffles and taking in the scenery. The afternoon will conclude with a casting happy hour at Gallatin River Lodge with final words over dinner.
Saturday, July 20th offers a plethora of group-guided walk and wade opportunities. We’ll have groups exploring Yellowstone National Park, DePuy’s Spring Creeks, and Alpine Still-water, taking advantage of the incredibly accessible fisheries around Bozeman.
Highlighting local gems and native species, Friday July 19th will be dedicated to a full-day float of the Yellowstone River. Experienced, welcoming, and supportive guides have been recruited through Sweetwater Fly Shop, and will host a post-float meal in beautiful Livingston, MT.
Thursday, July 18th is all about local waters. Fly fishers from away buddy up with local women to explore and fish the day away. Van shuttles will be available to those looking for a larger group experience, and carpools will be available for partnered fly fishing.
Wednesday, July 17th marks the start of our formal Bozeman exchange program schedule: we’ll begin with a morning entomology talk at Nova Cafe, move on to SIMMS campus for a tour and workshop with industry perspectives and guest presenter Whitney Milhoan from Casting for Recovery, and wrap up with a casting clinic hosted by Kara and Lynae Tripp of Damselfly Fishing.
The afternoon continues with Bozeman By Fly Shop: a scavenger hunt through Bozeman with fishy clues at the many local fly shops! Participants will have from 3PM to 6PM to complete their route. Fly boxes will be filled by the time our evening Meet + Greet starts up at Outlaw Brewing, where the fishy fun continues: fly tying challenges, live music, food trucks, and other festivities will keep us entertained in good company!
The first ever fly fishing exchange will take place in Bozeman, Montana from July 16-21, 2019. The schedule is packed with incredible fishing, fun social events, and lots of exploring this beautiful area. Join our day by day schedule if you’re in the area, or plan on the full program!
Tuesday, July 16th is our arrival day to Bozeman for the cohort from the Northeast. No community events are planned for this day as open to the public.
Come talk fish and color in a Maine river ecosystem scene, or test out fly casting with our booth buddy, Maine Fly Company!
While the Bozeman-bound group prepares for their Montana adventures, we’re welcoming the greater fly fishing community to join us in a casual casting session and gear testing opportunity at Fort Williams in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Secondhand and new gear will be available to try out your cast, and if you take home a secondhand gem, your purchase will go to fund participation costs for one of our gals headed to Montana!
