ABOUT THE EVENT: 

Learn the basics of how to cast a fly, fish behavior + handling, fly selection + knots, reading water and anything else you're curious about. At these beginner events, we follow the group's interests so please bring your questions and curiosities!

Here are the basics:

  • we provide the gear, you come as you are with sunglasses and sun protection

  • familiarize yourself with fly fishing gear and how to use it

  • learn the basics of casting and catching fish

  • learn in an open, queer-centered skills sharing space

This event is taught by our community for our community, which is inherently pretty queer. Fishing can be an act of embodied joy, a meditative practice of being present in nature, empowered observation-based decision making, and a cultural disruption to norms of colonization. Fishing is often also deeply unserious. Messy learning is human and beautiful! And none of us will ever know all the things, but there’s always more to learn from one another and the ecosystems we inhabit.

We center queerness as a framework (and politic) and welcome every body with intersectional awareness and conscious presence. The intention of these spaces is to build community and deepen relationships with self, each other, and nature. We’re actively participating in the support networks we need, and are accountable to one another’s wellbeing and safety. If you're good with that, come hang out!

Identifying the right pricing tier for you:

  • The base rate for this event is $20, covering actual program costs. If you are able to treat yourself without worrying about covering life necessities, the base rate is likely the appropriate price for you. 

  • The “Take My Money” rate is $30, covering you and another angler’s basic program costs. This is available for those who are able to pay more based on their available resources, and ensures anglers with fewer resources have access to lower pricing tiers.

  • The $10 Fam Rate is for those who cannot cover full program costs. This price relies on community subsidies from the “Take My Money” rate — allowing for anonymous support to ensure access by and for community.   • The $0 BIPOC Rate is an invitation for folks who identify as such to join without cost. The spaces and activities we experience together have historically and inordinately impacted Black, Indigenous, and all Persons of the Global Majority. Being financially accessible is a core part of Confluence Collective Events, recognizing many fly fishing experiences are not. If you are unable to pay at any of the rates we have listed, please reach out. We will either work out a payment plan and/or provide a code to offset whatever you need.

A portion of all net proceeds from this purchase goes directly back into the hosting community: a portion of every program registration goes to mission-connected social, indigenous, environmental, conservation, and community groups doing necessary work in their local context. Past proceeds have benefitted: Bomazeen Land Trust , First Light, Nibezun, MMIW, the Marsha P Johnson Institute. For the 2026 events, we will be contributing to Niweskok . Thank you for supporting!
