Rocky Mountain Flies — Pride Pack

from $20.00

We have amazing fly tiers in our community! And since we’re queer every month of the year (and June is unreasonably busy for LGBTQIA2S+ folx for tokenization + capitalism reasons) we’re excited to share a Pride Pack of flies tied by Sara (they/them) with you for terrestrial season on the water. Fill your fly box with some gorgeously effective flies, ideal for fishing in the Rockies and beyond!

As part of the Confluence Collective's commitment to celebrating human diversity on the water, the Rocky Mountain Pride Pack flies serve as a symbol of inclusivity and acceptance — and the fish like them, too! Each fly represents a unique expression of pride and unity, reflecting the complexities of individuals and the strength of community. With every cast, you can join Confluence Collective's dedication to instigate change, ensuring that the waters become a safer and welcoming space for all, where pride is celebrated and cherished.

Meet Sara (@coloradochickadee), the queer fly fishing enthusiast behind Rocky Mountain Flies Pride Pack. With a passion for both fly fishing and celebrating their authentic self, Sara enjoys inspiring fellow anglers from diverse backgrounds to embrace the joy of the sport amidst the beauty of nature.

Sara has attended our Montana Outcast Campouts and offered knowledge from behind the vise to many an angler. In 2023, a fly pattern tied onsite at the campout went on to catch 9 fish when the bite was particularly picky! We have full confidence these flies will support your learning journey and lead to some fishy encounters.

In our guest tiers words, here’s what you can expect in your Rocky Mountain Pride Pack of flies:

  • BIG GAY PRIDE FLOAT: The Big Gay Pride Float fly is a vibrant and empowering creation inspired by the classic Chubby Chernobyl pattern. Resplendent in the colors of the rainbow flag, this fly embodies the spirit of inclusivity and celebration of queer identity. With its eye-catching design, it not only lures fish but also symbolizes a strong message of acceptance and pride on the water. This foamy terrestrial is ideal for a dry-dropper set up, easily suspending any of the nymphs included in this pack alongside it, or most other emergers and nymphs already in your fly box.

  • PURPLE HAZE: Meet the Purple Haze fly, your ever-supportive angling companion, just like that caring member of your chosen family who's there to lift you out of any slump. Its vibrant presence and unwavering positivity serve as a reminder that, just like your fam’s warm embrace, you're never alone on your fly fishing adventures. Use this mayfly pattern anywhere the fish seem to prefer purple, or when you’re not quite sure what they prefer but know they’re eating on the surface! It just may become your new confidence fly.

  • RAINBOW WARRIOR: The traditional Rainbow Warrior fly is a beacon of pride and joy in our community of fly fishing. Tied with a bead that exudes even more cheer than the traditional, this nymph radiates with all the vibrant colors of the rainbow. Use this fly under a bobber or big dry fly, suspended in the water column like a nymph on its way to the surface, or bouncing off the bottom for low-lying fish.

  • THE FABULOUS FLY: Introducing The Fabulous Fly, a flamboyant and exuberant creation tied with hot pink hackle feathers that demand attention on the water. As it dances across the surface, The Fabulous Fly becomes a symbol of empowerment and a reminder that the fishing experience is enriched when we embrace and celebrate our uniqueness. Use this dry fly in the company of caddis hatches or mayfly dances on the surface. The high-visibility pink will help you keep track of your drift!

  • NONBINARY CADDIS: The Nonbinary Caddis embraces fluidity and uniqueness. As it elegantly drifts below the water's surface, it symbolizes the beauty of individuality and the importance of creating a safe and welcoming space for all anglers to celebrate their true selves.  Caddis nymphs are often found in healthy aquatic ecosystems, and therefore a good guess at what the fish might be eating subsurface. Suspend it below a bobber or big dry fly to increase your chances of meeting fish.

All hooks are Tiemco Hooks, feathers are from Whiting Farm, and fur is from Natures Spirit.
